Very happy, I ordered my Medical Certificate in the early morning hours and before noon time of same day I had it on my inbox. Speedy service and they present the health condition precisely, get to the point.
They meet the incredibly fast turnaround stated (certificate/letter sent before 9am the following morning if the doctor feels that a letter/certificate is appropriate) which is incredibly quick and I am really grateful for the help provided!
Very easy and quick to get my certificate. And the certificate was approved from the specific company to travel with my dog. I will use them again. Well done.
Second time using this company and they are fabulous! Always great, fast, friendly service. Highly recommend!
This was my second time using Medical Cert, and once again the service was exceptionally quick and professional. Everything was handled efficiently, with clear communication throughout.
I found the service very straight forward and quick. Exactly what I needed to get my Padi medical form signed before our holiday. Thank you very much.
Process was easy and responses were quick. I would recommend their service.
Fast efficient service for medical certificates. I used the not fit to fly service and was provided with a certificate the next day, the price is very reasonable and enabled a flight credit refund with my airline. Would recommend and would use again if needed.
A fast and efficient service. It wasn't complicated and the Fit-to-fly note was accepted by the Airport without any further questions. Thank you.
Ideal for me, I am looking to get a certificate for some medical issues I have. So this is the perfect solution for me, uploading docs was easy and the forms very straightforward to fill in. Will definitely use them again. Many thanks.
Excellent service. Easy to use and certificate issued in less than 24 hours. £39 as opposed to the £150 my GP charges. Highly recommended.
Quick and reasonably pain-free. Received their standard certificate as well as my requested bespoke certificate, by email, by 9am the following morning. Both completed properly, signed and stamped as required. More expensive than my GP, but infinitely quicker and easier.
One of the best experiences. It's easy to get a GP note.
Excellent. My GP refuses to issue DWP MED 3 Fit Notes to students. MedicalCert were excellent and extremely helpful in providing a necessary certificate. Highly recommended.
You were amazing, you kept me updated and replied promptly to any queries I had. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
They helped me, they were very professional and nice.
Very pleased. Quick service with very professional letter provided.
Great service, pretty straight forward and easy to use the website.
I was recommended Medical Cert by a friend and was so impressed with the service received. I would recommend using a laptop rather than a phone. Overall a fantastic and fast service.
Independent GP Assessment
MedicalCert connects patients with independent GMC-registered doctors for private medical consultations. Your submission is sent directly to an independent GP for individual review. Certificates and letters are not generated automatically — each request is evaluated using the doctor's own professional medical judgement and accepted clinical standards.
Confidential Submission
You complete a secure online form outlining your medical history, symptoms, and the purpose of your request. This information is sent directly to an independent GMC-registered GP to form the basis of their clinical review.
Independent Clinical Evaluation
The independent GP reviews the information provided, considering current symptoms, functional impact, stability of any existing conditions, and whether documentation is medically justified at that time.
Issued Where the GP Determines it is Appropriate
If the GP determines the request is clinically appropriate, a signed medical certificate or letter is issued. Where the GP determines there is insufficient clinical basis, documentation will not be provided.
MedicalCert is a digital marketplace connecting patients with independent UK GMC-registered doctors for private medical consultations.
All clinical decisions are made independently by the reviewing GP.
What Is a Medical Certificate in the UK?
A medical certificate is an official document issued by a registered doctor confirming a health-related matter. In the United Kingdom, medical certificates are used across employment, education, travel, insurance, sport, and housing, covering everything from workplace absence to fitness for air travel.
UK employers typically require a medical certificate when an employee has been absent from work for more than seven consecutive days. For absences of seven days or fewer, most employers accept a self-certification form. However, medical certificates serve many purposes beyond sick leave, including travel insurance claims, university mitigating circumstances applications, sporting event clearance, and housing or disability support requests.
MedicalCert connects patients with independent GMC-registered UK doctors who review each submission individually and, where clinically appropriate, issue a signed medical certificate the same day. From £39, with a full refund if the doctor determines a certificate cannot be issued.
Medical Certificate From Your GP vs MedicalCert
Getting a medical certificate from your GP is not always straightforward. NHS GP surgeries are under significant pressure, and many practices do not prioritise administrative letters alongside clinical appointments. The latest NHS England GP Patient Survey reports that a substantial proportion of patients wait over two weeks for a routine appointment, and private letter fees at GP surgeries often range from £50 to over £150.
MedicalCert provides a structured alternative for patients who need documentation quickly or whose GP practice cannot accommodate the request in time.
NHS GP route
Appointment availability varies by practice and region. Many surgeries ask patients to book days or weeks ahead. Some GPs decline to issue private letters altogether, or charge fees that vary widely. For time-sensitive situations, the standard NHS pathway may not meet the deadline.
MedicalCert online
Submit your application online at any time. An independent GMC-registered GP reviews your submission individually, usually the same day. If the doctor determines the request is clinically appropriate, your signed certificate is delivered by email as a verifiable PDF. Most certificates are issued the same day, all by 9AM the following morning. From £39.

Frequently Asked Questions About Medical Certificates
Medical certificates through MedicalCert start from £39. The price depends on the type of certificate required and the complexity of the clinical review. You pay at the time of application, and you receive a full automatic refund if the reviewing GP determines a certificate cannot be issued on clinical grounds. By comparison, many NHS GP surgeries charge between £50 and £150 for private medical letters, though NHS Fit Notes (Med3) are issued free of charge for eligible patients.
Most certificates are reviewed and issued on the same day you submit your application. All certificates are delivered by 9AM the following morning at the latest. Certificates are sent as signed PDF documents directly to your email inbox.
Yes. Medical certificates issued by GMC-registered doctors are valid documentation for employer absence records and Statutory Sick Pay purposes. Each MedicalCert certificate includes the issuing doctor's GMC registration number, professional signature, and a QR verification code that employers can check independently. There is no legal requirement for a medical certificate to come from your own NHS GP. ACAS guidance confirms that employers should accept legitimate medical documentation from any registered medical practitioner.
No. MedicalCert is fully online. You complete a short medical questionnaire describing your situation, upload any relevant supporting evidence, and your application is sent directly to an independent GMC-registered GP for review. There is no appointment, no video call, and no waiting room. The GP reviews the information provided and determines whether a certificate is clinically appropriate based on what you have submitted.
The reviewing GP can issue a certificate covering a period that has already passed, provided the clinical evidence supports it. When completing your application, include details of when your symptoms began and any evidence from the relevant dates. The doctor will determine the appropriate dates to cover based on the information provided. Certificates cannot be issued for periods where there is no supporting clinical basis.
The validity period depends on the type of certificate and the clinical opinion of the reviewing doctor. For sick notes, the GP specifies the dates you are considered unfit for work. For fitness certificates such as fit to fly, fit to work, or sports clearance, the doctor states the date of assessment and any conditions or time limitations. There is no single fixed expiry that applies to all medical certificates. The reviewing GP determines the appropriate period based on your individual circumstances.
A private medical certificate, such as those issued through MedicalCert, is a document from a GMC-registered doctor confirming a health-related matter. It is accepted by employers for absence records and Statutory Sick Pay. An NHS Fit Note (also called a Med3 or Statement of Fitness for Work) is a specific government form issued by NHS GPs and is required for certain government benefit claims, including Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and the limited capability for work element of Universal Credit. MedicalCert does not issue NHS Med3 Fit Notes. If you need documentation specifically for a government benefit claim, you should contact your NHS GP.
NHS Fit Notes (Med3) are issued free of charge by your NHS GP for absences longer than seven days. However, other types of medical certificate, such as fit-to-fly letters, travel cancellation evidence, sports clearance, or employer-specific documentation, are usually treated as private medical services. Most GP surgeries charge a fee for these, and many do not offer them at all. MedicalCert provides these private medical certificates from £39, reviewed and issued by independent GMC-registered doctors.
Employers are expected to accept legitimate medical documentation from any GMC-registered doctor. There is no legal requirement for a medical certificate to come from your own registered NHS GP. ACAS guidance states that employers should not unreasonably refuse medical evidence provided in good faith. If an employer questions a certificate, the QR verification code and the issuing doctor's GMC registration number allow them to verify the document independently. In practice, employer rejection of a valid private medical certificate is uncommon.
Every application is reviewed individually by an independent GMC-registered UK doctor. MedicalCert does not use automated approvals, templates, or AI-generated certificates. The reviewing doctor considers your symptoms, supporting evidence, and the purpose of your request, then makes a clinical decision about whether a certificate is appropriate. MedicalCert's clinical team is led by Dr Maria Knobel (GMC 7495073), a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
If the reviewing GP determines there is insufficient clinical basis to issue a certificate, your application fee is refunded in full automatically. You are not charged for unsuccessful applications. The doctor's decision is final and based on their independent professional judgement.
Supporting evidence is optional but can strengthen your application. You can upload documents such as previous medical letters, prescription records, hospital discharge summaries, or photographs relevant to your condition. The reviewing GP uses whatever information is available to make their clinical decision. For some certificate types, providing evidence may increase the likelihood of approval.
