What Is an Actor and Model Fit to Work Certificate?

An actor and model fit to work certificate is an official medical document from a GMC-registered GP confirming that you are in good health and fit to perform your professional duties. Talent agencies, production companies, casting directors, and modelling agencies regularly request this certificate before or during engagement — particularly for productions involving physical demands, insurance requirements, or working abroad.

This is a distinct product from a standard fit to work certificate for office or general employment. The entertainment sector has specific documentation norms shaped by production insurance requirements, agent obligations, and casting contracts — MedicalCert’s certificate is designed to meet those conventions.

Who Typically Requires This Certificate?

🎬

Actors — film, TV, theatre

Production companies and studios often require proof of fitness before or during a production — particularly for physically demanding roles, international shoots, or productions where cast insurance is a contractual requirement.

📸

Models and commercial performers

Modelling agencies and commercial clients may require a fitness certificate as part of their standard engagement process, particularly for catalogue work, overseas assignments, or contracts with physical requirements.

🎙

Presenters, dancers, and creatives

Broadcast presenters, dancers, choreographers, and other performance professionals may face equivalent requirements from production companies or agencies managing their engagements.

👶

Child performers — licensed productions

Child Performance Licences for TV, film, and stage work typically require a GP letter confirming the child is medically fit to work. This is a statutory requirement under children’s entertainment licensing regulations. See the specific child performer notes below.

What the Certificate Contains

MedicalCert’s actor and model fit to work certificate is a signed PDF from a GMC-registered doctor. It includes:

Your name and date of birth
Full identification as provided at consultation.

Confirmation of fitness to work
A professional statement that you have been assessed and are currently in good health and fit to carry out your professional duties.

Role or context (where applicable)
The certificate can reference the professional context for which fitness is being confirmed — general entertainment work, or a specific production or engagement where known.

Certificate validity period
The certificate is valid for 90 days from the date of issue — standard for entertainment sector fit to work documentation.

Issuing doctor’s details
Full name, GMC registration number, and signature confirming clinical legitimacy.

Unique verification reference
Allows your agency or production company to verify the certificate’s authenticity at verify@medicalcert.co.uk.

Actor and Model Cert vs General Fit to Work Certificate

These are related but serve different contexts. Choose based on what your agency or employer has requested.

🎬 Actor and Model Certificate

  • Specifically for entertainment industry engagements
  • Confirms general health fitness for performance work
  • Valid for 90 days — standard for production contracts
  • Recognised by UK agencies and production companies
  • Appropriate for talent agencies and casting requirements

💼 General Fit to Work Certificate

  • Confirms return to normal employment after illness
  • Used after sick leave or for pre-employment health checks
  • Standard employment contexts — office, retail, hospitality
  • Not specific to entertainment industry conventions
Scope note: MedicalCert actor and model certificates confirm fitness for general performance and entertainment work via GP assessment. They are suitable for most agency and production requirements. They are not equivalent to the full cast medical examinations offered by specialist entertainment occupational health services (such as those required for major international productions or stunts), which involve in-person physical examinations. If your production requires a specialist cast medical, we can still provide supporting GP documentation as part of that process.

Child Performer Licences — What Parents Need to Know

Child Performance Licences and GP letters

Under the Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014, local authorities issuing Child Performance Licences for TV, film, and stage work typically require a GP letter stating that the child is medically fit to work in the relevant context.

MedicalCert can provide a GP fitness letter for child performers based on parent-submitted health information. The assessment is based on general health status as described in the consultation — it is not a specialist paediatric assessment or a school absence justification.

For modelling by children (as distinct from licensed stage or screen performance), a parental letter is typically accepted rather than a GP letter. Check the specific requirements of your local authority or production company before ordering.

Important: If your child has any significant health conditions, consult your own GP as well — a remote private assessment is not a substitute for their primary care relationship.

How to Get Your Actor and Model Fit to Work Certificate

1

Complete the online questionnaire

Provide your basic health information — current health status, any ongoing conditions, medications, and the context for which fitness is being confirmed. Mention your professional role (actor, model, presenter, child performer) and the specific request from your agency or production company if known.

2

Upload a short health confirmation video

A brief 30-second video confirming you are currently in good health. This provides the clinical basis for the assessment. For child performers, a parent completing the questionnaire and providing a video of the child may submit on the child’s behalf.

3

GMC-registered doctor reviews your case

One of our experienced GPs reviews your submission the same day. The doctor assesses your current health status and — where clinically appropriate — issues your fitness certificate. The doctor may contact you for additional information.

4

Receive your certificate by 9AM

Your signed PDF certificate is delivered to your inbox same day or by 9AM next morning — ready to forward to your agency, production company, or casting department. Valid for 90 days from issue. A full refund is provided if a certificate cannot be issued.

Actor and Model Certificate FAQs

The MedicalCert actor and model fit to work certificate is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. This is the standard validity period for entertainment sector fitness documentation. If your production requires a certificate issued within a specific window before filming, ensure you time your application accordingly. A new certificate can be obtained at any time after the 90-day period expires.
Yes, in most cases. Production companies and talent agencies across the UK routinely accept certificates from GMC-registered GPs as evidence of fitness for standard performance work. MedicalCert certificates include the doctor’s GMC number and a unique verification reference. For major international productions with specialist cast medical requirements, an in-person examination by an occupational health specialist may be required in addition — but a GP certificate remains valid supporting documentation.
Yes. MedicalCert can provide a GP fitness letter for child performers as part of the Child Performance Licence application process. A parent or guardian completes the questionnaire on behalf of the child and provides a short health confirmation video. The certificate is not a specialist paediatric assessment — if your child has significant health conditions, their primary GP should also be involved.
Potentially, yes. Having a managed health condition does not automatically prevent you from being assessed as fit for performance work. The doctor will assess your current health status, the nature and management of your condition, and the demands of the work in question. If your condition is well-managed and does not significantly impair your capacity for the specified work, a certificate can be issued where clinically appropriate. Be transparent in your questionnaire about any conditions and medications.
No. A full cast medical examination — offered by specialist entertainment occupational health providers — involves an in-person physical assessment, may include ECG, blood tests, and fitness tests, and produces a detailed medical report. The MedicalCert certificate is a GP fitness assessment based on a remote consultation and health evidence. For most agency and production requirements in the UK, the GP certificate is sufficient. For major international productions, stunts, or where a full physical is explicitly required, a specialist in-person examination will be needed.
Yes. If you have recovered from an illness or injury and are returning to performance work, a fit to work certificate confirms your current fitness for those duties. If you were previously on a sick note, a fit to work certificate is the appropriate document to confirm your recovery and clearance to work. Describe your recent health history in the questionnaire so the doctor can make a fully informed assessment.
