CLINICAL GOVERNANCE

Clinical Governance

MedicalCert.co.uk operates with the aim of providing responsible, clinically reviewed medical documentation through an online consultation process. Clinical governance refers to the systems and standards in place to support patient safety, transparency, and responsible medical decision-making.

This page explains how clinical oversight and safety principles are applied when medical certificate requests are reviewed.

Clinical Oversight

Medical certificate requests submitted through the MedicalCert platform are reviewed by GMC-registered doctors. Clinical judgement is applied when assessing whether medical documentation can be issued based on the information provided during the consultation.

Doctors review relevant medical history and contextual information provided by the applicant in order to determine whether issuing documentation would be clinically appropriate.

Where a request cannot be supported clinically, documentation may not be issued.

Online Consultation Limitations

Online consultations allow doctors to review health information remotely. However, there are situations where remote assessment may not be suitable.

Examples may include cases where:

  • additional medical investigation or physical examination is required
  • insufficient information is available to assess medical risk
  • a condition may require in-person medical care

In such circumstances, applicants may be advised to consult their GP or an appropriate healthcare professional in person.

Patient Safety Principles

Patient safety is central to the operation of the MedicalCert platform. Medical documentation is not automatically issued and remains subject to clinical review.

Doctors assessing consultation submissions consider whether issuing documentation would be appropriate in light of the information provided and the purpose of the requested certificate.

Requests may be declined where issuing documentation would not be medically appropriate.

Clinical Decision-Making

Medical decisions relating to certification are made by qualified doctors based on the information submitted during the consultation. This may include relevant medical history, symptoms, and contextual information relating to the certificate request.

Clinical judgement is applied on a case-by-case basis. The purpose of the review is to determine whether the available information supports the issuing of medical documentation.

The acceptance of any medical certificate by third parties (such as airlines, insurers, employers, or event organisers) is determined by those organisations.

Responsible Use of Online Medical Certificates

Medical documentation should be requested only where it reflects a genuine medical circumstance. Submitting accurate and truthful information during the consultation process helps ensure that doctors can make appropriate clinical decisions.
