If your employer, university, airline or insurer wants to confirm the document came from a GMC-registered doctor, they can check it against MedicalCert records. Altered or copied documents do not pass that check.

Usually, but it is their decision to make. Certificates issued by MedicalCert are signed by GMC-registered doctors, and GOV.UK guidance tells employers that where they agree, an employee may give another appropriate form of evidence instead of a fit note. That agreement is the employer’s to give, so check your absence policy or ask your HR team before you apply. For the first 7 consecutive calendar days of sickness you can self-certify and need no medical evidence at all.
No. A MedicalCert certificate is a private doctor’s letter for your employer, university or insurer. It is not an NHS fit note. GOV.UK requires a fit note when you claim Employment and Support Allowance and you have been unable to work for more than 7 days in a row, and the same applies to the health element of Universal Credit. For a benefit claim, get a fit note from your GP or from another authorised healthcare professional: a hospital doctor, registered nurse, occupational therapist, pharmacist or physiotherapist.
Most certificates are delivered same day. Requests submitted by 11pm are delivered by 9am the following morning. Once submitted, a GMC-registered doctor reviews your case and issues your certificate to your inbox. If the doctor needs more information from you first, they will contact you before issuing.
If a doctor cannot clinically justify issuing documentation based on the information provided, you will receive a full refund. No questions asked. We only issue certificates where there is a genuine clinical basis for doing so.
